BambuLab published a new post on Reddit about a rising concern in the community. Indeed, many have complained about a seemingly insignificant change to how the filament is attached to the cardboard spool in Bambu Lab filament spools. Instead of bending the filament into a small hole in the cardboard, Bambu Lab uses tape to hold the filament to the cardboard spool. Yet, this has led to some issues for some users.
Bambu Lab explained that tape is used to fix an issue that could clog the AMS feeder or the extruder with the previous solution. The small section of the filament was not straight, and that itself, could lead to problems during the feeding process, or it could break and lead to a clog of feeding issues.
Bambu Lab said they have tested the tape solution multiple times to ensure the filament is released when the spool is depleted.
But Bambu Lab says that they discovered an issue where the tape was incorrectly applied on a small batch of filament during production. Sometimes, the tape can detach from the cardboard and be pulled by the filament.
Bambu Lab says they have updated the jig used for the filament tape application to ensure a better application.
If you encounter any issues with Bambu Lab filaments, Bambu Lab advises contacting their customer support team using the General Inquiry request, and providing the Serial Number of the filament spool along with pictures of the issue that has occurred.
