In a post on its forum, Bambu Lab announced a new MakerLab tool called ‘Make My Lithophane,’ and you can sign up to join the beta.
If you don’t know what lithophane is, Wikipedia describes it as follows:
A lithophane is a thin plaque of translucent material, normally porcelain, which has been moulded to varying thickness, such that when lit from behind the different thicknesses show as different shades, forming an image.
Bambu Lab says they have asked the community; this was a well-requested tool. And even though quite a few other free tools are available, they saw an opportunity to provide some added value.
Notably, ‘Make My Lithophane’ will allow you to create colored lithophane when using CMYK filaments.
According to Bambu Lab, ‘Make My Lithophane’ is:
- Effortless Design: Turn photos into lithophanes in just a few clicks.
- Preview Perfection: See your lithophane before printing to ensure it’s perfect.
- Advanced Color Recovery: Our algorithm ensures vibrant and accurate colors.
Even more exciting, Bambu Lab says ‘Make My Lithophane’ is coming to mobile, allowing you to create lithophanes on the go.
