Bambu Lab unveiled its new Wood PLA on November 19th, and it comes in 6 different colors:
- Black Walnut (13107): #4F3F24
- Rosewood (13204): #4C241C
- Clay Brown (13801): #995F11
- Classic Birch (13505): #918669
- White Oak (13106): #D6CCA3
- Ochre Yellow (13403): #C98935
Bambu Lab says this new Wood PLA feels like real wood. Each spool contains approximately 15% fine wood powder. Still according to Bambu Lab, the matte finish hides the layer lines, resulting in smoother and more refined prints.
Because of the wood powder in the filament, Bambu Lab says this PLA has higher moisture absorption. It is highly recommended that the filament be dried before use.
Bambu Lab recommends one of the following methods to dry the filament:
- 60 ± 5°C for 8 hours in a blast drying oven
- 70–75°C for 12 hours in the X1 chamber
If you own a filament dryer, it seems the Wood PLA filament has a drying temperature 5°C higher than regular PLA.
Regarding nozzles, Bambu Lab recommends using the 0.4 nozzle. 0.6 and 0.8 are also compatible, but 0.2 is not recommended.
You can use your PLA Basic printing profile, but you should set the “Max Volumetric Speed” to 18.
Finally, because of the wood powder contained in the filament, this Wood PLA has a “Unique Wood-Like Smell” that Bambu Lab claims is “non-irritating, non-toxic, and completely safe.”
